I saw Pillion tonight. Wow. I really liked it and the end stuck with me. I can't talk about why without getting into spoiler territory but this film stuck with me and I can't express it in a toot. I'm off this week so maybe I'll find time to write a blog post about what I feel. I also need to let me feelings and thoughts marinate.

I'm trying to set up voice control for Home Assistant.... in Esperanto! There's only, as far as I know, one local option for an Esperanto STT model able to run on a Raspberry Pi: vosk. And let me tell you, the set up (especially with dockerized home assistant) is, uh, a labor of love, let's say. Mi sukcesos !

I've been absent because I've been spending a lot of time with a friend who has had a death in his family. I feel stretched thin, tired. My job as a friend is to help my good friend carry his burden, to be a witness to his grieving in a way that his family should have been. I'm tired. I'm sad. But his sadness is not mine. I almost got hit by a car today. While in a sidewalk bike lane. He came pulling out of I guess some kind of alley or parking area or something. I braked, yelled in English "Jesus fucking Christ!!!" while staring deep into the pupils of the void, realizing that I was a hair away from the car. I turned my head to see who my would be murderer was. And then he proceeded to chew me out. I was trembling. It happened a few hours ago and I'm still shooken up.

So my new pet peeve with the French is how it is now the new fad to just respond to a text message with "Rien compris" ("Understood nothing") instead of asking any clarify question. Often this is because of a typo or autocorrect gone haywire (which happens to me a lot with a keyboard in three languages) but heaven forbid we try to actually put in any effort, right? Heaven forbid we say "I didn't understand what xxxx means." Or "I think you made a typo." 🙄

Pray for ya boy. He's about to go into a meeting with civil servants to explain what a product owner is and what their job consists of and how to run a user interview in a way that avoids biases and gets the user to tell you what they really need. (Disclaimer: I am not a product owner. I just play one on TV... I mean, at work.) The person I'm talking, as far as I understand, is a consultant in.... running meetings? Honestly, I'm frightened. /s

Saw the movie Gattaca in the theatre for the 1st time tonight. I remembered I liked it and the plot but it was only now that I understood why it resonated with me since I first saw it, around 15 y/o: I saw myself to some degree. Without details, we can say I'm not genetically blessed and for most of my schooling I was considered to be a bit slow. Years later I'm doing things people thought impossible of me. Valedictorian, Fulbright, producing theatre... Few would have imagined

Sat down and tried to play piano for the first time in over a decade. Man am I rusty. At least for reading music (and off my cell phone on top of that). But I don't feel discouraged. In the course of an hour, a lot came back and my hands still move almost as they should. Excited to see how I'll progress over the next couple weeks before I have to give the keyboard back.
